Privacy Policy
Effective date: 22 July 2026
How Far/Much works fully without any account — your workouts are read on your device and never leave it. The optional Friends feature is the only part that uses a server, and only after you choose to sign in and opt in. This policy explains both.
Health & fitness data (HealthKit)
How Far/Much uses Apple's HealthKit framework. With your permission, it reads workouts from Apple Health: activity type, date and time, duration, distance, active energy and average heart rate. It uses this data solely to calculate the totals, trends and exports you see in the app.
- The app is read-only — it never writes to, changes or deletes anything in Apple Health.
- All calculations happen on your iPhone. Your Health and HealthKit data is never transmitted anywhere, and is never shared with third parties, used for advertising or marketing, sold, or used for any purpose other than showing you your own workout statistics.
- HealthKit data is never stored outside Apple Health — the app reads it fresh each time and keeps no copy.
- You can revoke access at any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.
The app itself collects nothing
Outside the optional Friends feature, we receive no data at all — not your workouts, not your settings, not crash reports or usage statistics. All calculation happens on your device.
Friends (optional, opt-in)
If — and only if — you open the Friends tab and sign in with Apple, a small amount of data is stored on our behalf by Supabase (our hosting provider, in the EU) so friends can compare totals:
- An account identifier from Sign in with Apple (a random Apple-provided ID — we never see your Apple email or real name).
- A handle you choose, so friends can find you.
- Summary totals only — per-period, per-activity distance, duration, calories, workout count and (if you opt in) average heart rate. Never individual workouts, dates, times or routes.
- Your friendships and the reactions (Respect/Whoops) you send and receive.
Your totals are visible only to people you have mutually accepted as friends, enforced by database security rules. You can pause sharing at any time (which removes your published totals), remove individual friends, or delete your account and all its data from the ••• menu on the Friends tab. This data is never used for advertising, never sold, and shared with no one except the friends you choose.
Sharing & export
The app can create a summary image, a text summary or a CSV file of your workouts — but only when you tap Share, and the content goes only where you choose to send it (Messages, Mail, Files and so on). Nothing is shared automatically.
Data retention & deletion
On your device, the app stores only your preferences (units, filters, sharing settings); deleting the app removes them. Your workouts remain in Apple Health, untouched. If you used Friends, deleting your account (••• → Delete account & data on the Friends tab) permanently removes your handle, shared totals, friendships and reactions from our server.
Third parties
Apple (Sign in with Apple) and Supabase (database hosting, EU) are used only to run the Friends feature. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and no data brokers.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices ever change, this page will be updated and the effective date revised before any change takes effect.
