Questions, fixes, and how a few things work.
Getting started
What's the difference between "I run a group" and "Just me"?
I run a group lets you plan workouts, log every attendee's sets and send people their own results. Just me is for training on your own: your numbers stay on your phone, and you can still open results sent to you and send yours back. Change it any time in Settings → Change role or run setup again. Switching never deletes anything.
Where is Settings?
If you run a group, tap the gear at the top right of the Today tab. In "Just me" mode Settings is its own tab.
How do I generate a workout?
On the Today tab, tap a session (or "One-off workout" for something outside your schedule). Set the time, focus and who's training, pick the start and finish exercise, then tap Generate Workout.
How does it decide how many exercises to include?
It works out roughly how many stations fit in the time you've set, allowing for warm-up, rest, changeover between exercises and how many people are training. You can tune the pace under Settings → Timing.
I don't like one of the suggested exercises
Tap the × next to it. You can auto-swap it for another suggestion in the same category, pick a replacement yourself, or just remove it. You can also add an exercise to a workout.
Where do the default weight and reps come from?
Each person's weight and reps prefill from their own most recent set on that exact exercise. If they've never done it, it starts blank at your default reps (Settings → Workout defaults). Weights are in kilograms.
How do I enter an exact weight, or a small add-on?
The − and + buttons move in the usual steps for the kit (2.5 kg for bars and plates, 0.5 kg for cables and dumbbells; hold for 5 kg). For anything in between, tap the weight itself and type it, to two decimal places (22.25, or 4.54 for a 10 lb cable plate), or use the ±0.25 / ±0.5 / ±1 / ±2 nudges. The − and + buttons then carry on from that value. If the weight says "all sets done", every set it controls is ticked off. You can still change it: the app asks first, then updates those sets and the totals. To change just one set, hold it.
An exercise steps wrongly or starts at the bar's weight when it shouldn't
Its equipment tag is wrong. In the workout, tap the ⓘ next to the exercise name, open Equipment and fix it. Barbell and Weight plates are separate: a lift only starts at the bar's weight if it needs a bar and plates. The workout you're in adjusts straight away.
Someone is in the workout who shouldn't be
In the workout, tap ⋯ → Remove someone… and pick them. If they have sets ticked off, it warns you first, because those sets are deleted from that workout. Their other workouts aren't touched.
How do I change a rest timer?
Tap the countdown next to someone's name. You can add or take off 15 or 30 seconds, start the rest again, or end it. Rests default to 2 minutes after big (compound) lifts and 1 minute after everything else; change those in Settings → Timing.
How do I find exercises for a piece of kit?
Every exercise list (adding or swapping an exercise, the Library, templates) has an Equipment filter next to the Push / Pull chips: pick, say, Cable stack to see only exercises that use it. The search box also matches equipment, muscles and movements, so "cable row" or "hamstrings" work too.
How do I tick off, edit or delete a set?
Tap a set to tick it off. Press and hold it to edit or delete it. The + button adds another set.
Exercises and your gym
My gym doesn't have some of these exercises or kit
Settings → My Gym lets you switch off equipment you don't own. In the Library you can also turn off an individual exercise. The generator skips them but any history is kept.
Can I add my own exercises?
Yes. Tap + at the top right of the Library tab and give it a name, category, equipment and primary muscle.
How do form videos work?
Tap the ⓘ next to an exercise in a workout (or open it in the Library) and choose to add a form guide. The app opens a YouTube search for it. Find a video you like, then tap "Keep this video". Only the link and title are saved. This is the only part of the app that goes online.
What bar weights does it use?
Barbell, EZ-bar and hex/trap-bar each have their own weight (20, 10 and 25 kg to start with). Change them under Settings → My Gym. Lifts on a bar start at the bar's weight and can't go below it.
Sessions, templates and circuits
How do I change who trains on a session, or its length?
Settings → Sessions → tap the session to change its duration, template, start/finish exercise and default attendees. You can still change attendees for a single workout in the generator.
What's a template?
The shape a session is built from: fixed "anchor" lifts with optional alternatives, plus rotating slots by movement pattern. Settings → Templates. Circuit templates use work, move and rest intervals instead.
The circuit timer's sounds aren't playing
Check Settings → Timer sounds (beeps, spoken cues), and turn up your volume. Sounds play even with the silent switch on, and only while WeightsClub is on screen.
Sending and receiving results
WhatsApp said the file couldn't send
Open the chat in WhatsApp and tap the failed message to retry. The file is kept, so a retry works. If it keeps failing, check WhatsApp is up to date and has a connection, or send it by Messages or AirDrop instead.
How do I send someone their workout?
If you train in "Just me" mode, finishing a workout offers to send your results straight away. Otherwise, open a workout and tap ⋯ → Send workout file, or open the person in the People tab. Choose what to include, then share the file (WhatsApp, Messages, AirDrop and so on). "Share record" makes a PDF instead. A file contains only that person's own sets.
Someone sent me a .weightsclub file. How do I open it?
Tap the file in WhatsApp or Messages and choose WeightsClub, or use Import a file on the Results tab. Check who it's being added to, then import. Afterwards it tells you what happened: workouts added or updated, how many sets were new, changed or already there, and any exercises added to your library. Importing the same file twice never duplicates anything.
How do I undo an import?
Straight after importing, tap Undo this import on the summary screen. Later, go to Settings → Imports and swipe the import to remove it. Either way it takes out exactly what that file added and puts back anything it changed. Everything that was there before stays, and an exercise it added is kept if you've used it since. Imports made before this list existed aren't shown.
How do we share exercises we've each added?
Open the Library (in "Just me" mode it's under Settings → Exercise library) and tap the share button. It makes a file of the exercises you've added and, if you leave form videos on, the YouTube links you've kept. Send it like a workout file. Opening it shows what's new before anything is added, and only adds what the other person doesn't have. They can send theirs back the same way. No workouts, weights or people are in that file.
I imported a file under the wrong person
Open the same file again and pick the right person. The sets move across. The person created by mistake is then empty, and you can delete them: People tab, swipe left on the name, Delete.
What's the difference between archiving and deleting a person?
Archive hides someone from attendee lists and keeps all their history. Delete removes them and every set they logged, for good. Workouts they shared with other people keep everyone else's sets.
The same exercise appears twice in one workout
That happens when two phones each add the same exercise to the same workout and one is then imported into the other. The app now combines them into one: on import, and for workouts that already have it, the next time you open the app. All the sets are kept, with the imported ones after the ones already there.
The same exercise is in my library twice
If the names match (ignoring capitals, spaces and dashes) the app merges them by itself. If they have different names, open the one you don't want in the Library (Settings → Exercise library in "Just me" mode), choose Merge into another exercise and pick the one to keep. All its history, records and template slots move across.
History and trends
Where are my past workouts?
On the History tab, newest first, grouped by month. Filter by person, kind of workout and date range; the totals at the top (workouts, sets, weight lifted) follow the filter. Swipe a workout to delete it.
What does the Trends tab show?
Switch between weeks, months and quarters. You get this period against the last one, sets by category, weight lifted, number of workouts, and the exercises whose top weight has changed most. Filter by kind of workout (for example one session), and if you run a group, by person. The share button at the top makes a PDF of whatever the screen is showing.
What does the "has been light lately" hint mean?
WeightsClub looks at the sets from roughly the last two weeks. If one movement pattern (push, pull, legs or core) is a lot smaller than the others, it flags it as a nudge, not a rule. If you run a group, each session gets its own hint from its own past workouts, because different sessions have different people in them. In "Just me" mode there is one hint covering all your training.
Why is a trend chart empty?
Charts only include sets you've ticked off as completed. A logged weight that isn't ticked won't show up yet.
Your data
Does this sync between my devices?
No. Your data lives on this iPhone only. To move workouts to someone else (or to another phone of yours), use Send workout file and open it in WeightsClub on the other device. See the privacy policy. Data may be included in your normal iPhone backups.
How do I delete my data?
Delete workouts, exercises, templates and sessions in the app, or delete the app, which removes everything it stored on your iPhone.
